How to pin properly on an iPhone

Every article you read at the moment will tell you that Pinterest is the next big thing in social media. You can’t really ignore the figures with its massive popularity in America and the recent sign ups here in the UK. Read Steph’s article about Pinterest and it’s commercial opportunities
At the moment Pinterest appears to me to be all about curtains and cupcakes. I could dip my iPhone in Vaseline and hundreds and thousands for a similar Pinterest experience. No doubt as it grows in popularity people will find humourous and innovative ways to use Pinterest and take it beyond a mood board tool or somewhere to store pictures of my favourite types of ribbon.

Using Pinterest on the iPhone is a bit clunky at the moment. No doubt the app will improve in time and it will become easier. One thing I’ve noticed is that Pinners using an iPhone aren’t pinning properly. What I mean is, the “ethical” way to pin is to link back to the source or the original content. iPhone Pinners are, in general, not doing this and are more likely to take a screen grab or save an image to camera roll and upload to their board from their phone.
So, I’m going to take you through how to pin properly using your iPhone. Warning: You need to concentrate and focus on what I’m about to tell you.
1. Launch app and tap account.

2. Select install Bookmarklet

3. Instructions come up telling you that what you are about to do isn’t easy. Don’t panic. Follow Step 1 and bookmark the page by pressing the bookmark icon on the toolbar.

4. Copy the text in the box.

5. Go back to bookmarks

6. Select Pin it.

7. Delete the URL.

8. Paste what you copied in point 4.

9. You’re done.

Now I’m going to talk you through how to pin.
Go to a website. I’ve gone to the Manwhofellasleep.com who’s done cool “Invisiblia” stuff.

Click the Pin it bookmark.

Then just tap and image. Don’t press and hold as if you are saving the image. Just tap one image. Wait a second then all available images will be displayed like this:

Select the image you want and the app will launch.

Select the board you want to pin to. Or create a new board.

Title or comment on the image

Press pin it and you’ve pinned!

Then add more pics to create a board.

By doing it this way TheManWhoFell will get more traffic through his site as people come across these images on Pinterest. This is because I’ve pinned properly and not just saved the images to my phone.
It’s not easy but I think it’s the ethical way to use Pinterest as artists and photographers will get the credit for their creative work.
